How and when the treasures of the earth are sought

Not anybody knows, to go searching for truffles, beside the dog you need also a license.

It is normally released by the Mountain community, otherwise competences belong to Province’s appointed offices.

Making an inquiry it’s not enough, you need to pass a qualifying examination, which will allow you, as a Truffle Hunter or Truffle Man, to go searching for truffles in all the national territory (obviously only where it’s permitted by Law) and in allowed times.

It’s possible to find fresh truffles almost every month.

The researching and collection of truffle it’s permitted only in those periods.

FROM THE LAST SUNDAY OF SEPTEMBER TO 31 DICEMBER:

• TUBER MAGNATUM PICO (Fine White Truffle);
• TUBER MACROSPORUM VITT. (Smooth Black Truffle).

FROM THE 1st OF DICEMBER TO 15 MARCH: (Abruzzo region and neighboring municipalities
from 15 November):

• TUBER MELANOSPORUM VITT. (Fine Black Truffle or Norcia’s Black or Spoleto’s Black).

FROM THE 1st OF JUNE TO 31 AUGUST:

• TUBER AESTIVUM VITT. (Black Summer Truffle or “Scorzone”).

FROM THE 1st OF OCTOBER TO 31 DICEMBER:

• TUBER AESTIVUM VAR. UNCINATUM CHATIN (“Uncinato” truffle or Fragno’s Black).

FROM 15 JANUARY TO 15 APRIL:

• TUBER BORCHII VITT. O TUBER ALBIDUM PICO (“Bianchetto” truffle or “Marzuolo”).

FROM THE 1st OF JANUARY TO 15 APRIL:

• TUBER BRUMALE VAR. MOSCHATUM DE FERRY (“Moscato” truffle);
• TUBER BRUMALE VITT. (Black Winter Truffle or Black Sautee).

FROM THE 1st OF OCTOBER TO 31 JANUARY:

• TUBER MESENTERICUM VITT. (Ordinary Black Truffle or Bagnoli’s Black).
